The Rocket City Civil Rights project is capturing the stories of Huntsville’s civil rights movement and sharing this history with a larger audience.

While Alabama is nationally recognized for its civil rights era history, Huntsville’s story is often overlooked due to the national recognition of the movement in other cities such as Birmingham, Selma, and Montgomery. Huntsville’s own students and residents know very little about the unique course of the civil rights movement in our city. This project accomplishes multiple goals by both preserving the stories of Huntsville’s civil rights generation and also by finding ways to make these histories available and accessible to a broader audience.

With funding from the Alabama Humanities Foundation, RCCR Phase III begins in Fall of 2018.
